The reason why I tried Tokyo Café is because the adjacent Starbucks is always packed. But when I tried their coffee, that reason changed. Starbucks coffee is seasonal. Starbucks coffee is top-notch most of the time but there are times that their coffee is too strong and too bold. Tokyo Café's coffee is consistent. It is smooth and it has the right amount of strength.
Now, every time I go to southmall to get coffee, I go straight to Tokyo Café. Aside from their coffee, their staff is stellar. They connect on a personal level and remembers my order.
Try their Sumibiyaki if you are up for coffee!

I can't seem to get enough of Japanese cuisine lately. Walking into SM Southmall in the middle of the day with a rumbling stomach, Tokyo Cafe was a no-brainer choice.
Quick orders all around and the stand-outs were California Roll, Gyu Ju, and Red Azuki Bean Parfait.
The California Roll is like any California Maki but presented differently. Their version is a bit on the flat side, so why they called this a "roll" is beyond me. Taste wise though, this ranks tops among others I've tried. Generous portions of mango and kani were stuffed in the rice and topped with roe and sesame seeds.
The Gyu Ju looks like Beef Teppanyaki but slightly drier. Not as sweet compared to teppan but as tasty. Beef slices are thin and easy to chew. The rice is nice, soft and perfectly moist. I was expecting an Ajitsuke egg but this was plain hard boiled, although tasty nonetheless.
Lastly, the Read Azuki Bean Parfait is three scoops of green tea ice cream with red azuki beans and topped with whipped cream. The bitter sweet taste of the green tea ice cream lends a nice mix to the starchy sweet taste of the beans. Very good combination according to MrSweetTooth!
Minor mix-up and delay with the orders aside, this was still a good experience.
PS. Tokyo Blend Coffee is a must try too! Mild sweet blend perfect for after meals.
