This sponsored invite by Joanna Kennedy, one of the owners of Tortuga was one of my most memorable ‘assignments’ to date. I loved everything they have from their unique blend of dishes, vibrant ambiance, unbelievable low price and upscale service.

The same young entrepreneurs who came up with Walrus is behind this next go to destination in Katipunan. The cuisine is island as explained to us (I was joined by Raina Cheng)). Tortuga boldly puts in one roof vibrant flavors of tropical jungles and beaches of the Philippines, Polynesia, and the Caribbean, with heavy emphasis on Tiki Culture.

After taking more than an hour in taking photos, which included moving them around and styling them, we finally got to sit down for a feast. Raina and I shared 5 entrees excluding dessert, appetizer, sides and three unique cocktails.

I was surprised and reacted with glee on every bite I had from one plate to another. I was flabbergasted on how it was too delicious and way affordable at the same time. On my mind I was going how in the world is this possible?

There was a common theme in all we had, striking flavors. They were borderline salty or sweet, challenging your palate every time. Even the textures were on point. The meats were all tender and juicy.

My favorite is the Jungle Pumba. This could be the best Php 200 you’ll ever spend. Tortuga’s twice cut pork belly screams in flavors and like they described it in their menu, you will dream about it for days. Hey, I kinda dreamt about it last night.

Must order starter would be Spanish inspired, Jamon Croquettes. On top of tasty ham, insides had a nice creamy consistency of milk and potatoes. It almost like it was cheese but it wasn’t. Too addictive and could be the reason for your next weight gain dilemma. If you are looking for another appetizer, their version of Jamba Gambas should also be in your list.

Jerk Chicken, a Jamaican meat staple was just too good, I had it by my side keeping a distance from Raina. Its accomplice side, sliced fried bananas was as wonderful. Take a bite and you’ll wonder if they added a nice sweet liquor to it. Owners said none, but I swear it does!

I also suggest Chicken Curry for its combination of peanut, coconut and other Thai flavors; Pork Skewers for its vibrant lemongrass presence and really soft texture; and their cocktails which are all just as mind blowing all at only Php 95. I don’t drink alcohol but theirs made me order two.

I hope my review made you salivate because the goal is just that. Bring your date here and gain extra points for sure.Giovan Tia Marianne | TFC Alvin Ong | TFC Bettina BacaniPhantasm Darkstar Tom Salamanca Mary Love Siy.
