Cheese TanTanMen!!!

My all-time favorite ramen with cubes of sharp cheese that melts and incorporates in the soup. 128525

The cheese, however, numbs down the usual spiciness of the regular TanTanMen. Just right for people who can't tolerate spicy food.

Ukokkei was the Ramen place that stirred my love affair for Ramen, thanks to my friend in my last job. While this is the 2nd branch of Ukokkei (that I know of), their original branch on Arnaiz St. (Pasay Road) is an institution to Makati workers and residents and was there before the boom of Ramen a few years back.

I've been to their branch in Tuscany a few times already. But this is my first review (among my long list of pending ones). The good thing is that I'll be able to use my visit 3 weeks ago for this review since it's the most recent.

On a Sat lunch, granted it was a late lunch, it wasn't busy so great timing for us.

I wanted to try something new, but since it was my wife and cousin's first time to dine in, I encouraged them to try my favorite Miso Butter Corn Ramen (which they did and absolutely loved).

I went for the Cheesy Tan Tan Men. Pictured above, the server told me it was not as spicy as their awesome Tan Tan Men (more on that later), so I said what the heck, I'll try it!

Before it arrived, we had Gyoza to share so it was pretty good. And affordable. Always a good complement and appetizer to Ramen. 3.5/5 (the awesome Gyoza I can still recall were with Mitsuyado Sei Men (for the size and quality of presentation) and Ginza Bairin (for that crispy fried top "cover").

The Cheesy Tan Tan Men was pretty solid! The bowl was oozing with cheese that did neutralize somewhat the spiciness of the Tantanmen. The combination of the broth, sesame, chili and other spices make this nutty, spicy tasting dish so delish. And the cheese blended pretty well, even my wife could take the broth (though she was pretty happy with her Miso Butter Corn Ramen). While this cannot totally replace my fave Miso Butter Corn and Tan Tan Men of Ukokkei, I felt pretty satisfied. 4.5/5

The first time I tried their very very limited Tan Tan Men (only so many dishes available, been hearing only 10 or so bowls), it was actually ina take out microwaveable container that was just warm, not piping hot. Yet it was absolutely one of the most enjoyable Ramen experience I've had for Tan Tan Men. My man Edwin I was correct. It's an awesome dish. Even if not hot. 5/5

Their service in this branch was pretty good. Friendly and not as masungit as the ones in their Pasay Road branch. They even waited for us to finish even if they were closing for the afternoon. 5/5

Overall, the experience plus the sentimentality of this resto makes it a 5/5. It won't blow you away with their ambience or menu design, but you can't discount the intangibles and, of course, their ramen's taste.

Truly a classic.

Pros:

1. Fantastic ramen!
2. "Frayvorfur"
3. Bang for buck
4. Free tea (cold or hot)
5. Quick and friendly service.

Cons:

1. Toilet has been under repair forever
2. No internet
3. Not too clean
4. Needs a makeover

Overall : Panalo!

I've been hearing a lot about this place and i finally able to taste it yesterday. I wanted to find out if this ramen is better than my favorite yushoken. Yushoken is still better but this was good as well. I ordered the miso flavor for 400 pesos and shared it with my partner. The gyoza is 1 star for me... wala pa ding tatalo sa alaska... i mean yushoken.

Overall experience is 3 star since their ramen is also yummy. Go ahead and try it peeps.

We had their ramen lunch set (regular sized ramen with gyoza, chachi rice and salad) and it was so worth it. Their lunch set costs almost the same as the individually priced ramen and it was the same size! Food was good, although the service is kond of slow.

Ukkokei no karē tantanmen ga dai suki desu!! (I love Ukkokei's curry tantanmen!!) 127836
Note that curry tantanmen is differemt from curry ramen. They have the same noddles but the broth of curry tantanmem is much thicker and flavorful than that of curry ramen. Also, curry tantanmen has ground pork/beef (Can't distinguish the difference sorry. 128560) in it. Best ramen so far for me since I really really love curry. 128513128077

Ukkokei was just okay.

Didn't like their shoyu ramen much... But I enjoyed their gyoza. Wouldn't be coming back soon.

I still prefer Yushoken anyday :)

Was dragged here by some friends last nyt for dinner and though against my 'effin tight budget, I gave in for the sake of the sometimes costly friendship (haha) and yeah, another loloo review:)

I've ordered the ukokkei shio chashu and a set of gyoza. Nothing really much to say about the food. I don't hate it but i don't love it either. Just among the restos sailing amidst a sea safe and typical food quality. Nothing much exciting really and if asked if it's my own courteous way of saying that it is boring...almost. Wasn't also impressed with the service - rehearsed smiles, rehearsed greetings. Been looking for honesty I guess.

Hey, question here! Any significance having the looloo symbol on their counter?

Talking about MSG! 128514

Giving 3 127775 because I can eat it. HAHAHA! Ow, don't get me wrong, what I mean is that I am not a fan of Ramen. So when I can eat it, it's okay for me. 128513 Tastebuds problem.

Ramen was just okay. Noodles' texture and taste is like the one in "instant noodles". 9996

So I mentioned MSG, because when we reached home, we all fell asleep. The day after, my boyf was just like "na-vetsin yata tayo kagabi, tulog tayo agad". 128514128514128514

Not the kind of Ramen that will keep you coming back for more. 9996

Since it's the last day of the week last Wednesday (yey to long weekends 127881128587128588), Anthony and I decided to go out after work. First stop is dinner at Ukokkei Ramen Ron. I've always wanted to try this ever since hmmm 2013? 128586 So I was really happy to finally eat here and cross this out from my list!! 128513128513 We decided to share one order of tantanmen and one order of gyoza so we can still eat somewhere else after. The ramen and gyoza were both okay. It tasted like the ones we had at Mensakaba. It was good but not "Ramen Nagi good". Service was good and fast. 128077

I didn't expect that I would love this Ramen place. My friends used to tell me before "palagi namang sold out dun" but now I understand why... Haha!

I super duper love their off the menu Tantanmen! Very rich, flavorful and generous serving! Their gyoza is also a must-try!! Super sulit.

Ambiance is just so-so though but it doesn't matter anymore. 128540

Because we werent happy with Sauceria, we came here to satisfy ourselves.

Ordered Shio and Miso, both Ukokkei. Was surprised to find out that they serve one (1) pc of sliced pork in their soups! So disappointed! And to think per bowl costs 380+. I've also eaten here in the past and I dont think it was just 1 slice of pork in the ramen.

My wife picked me up at the airport and since the maid left this morning for a week's vacation, we decided to swing by Ukokkei to grab some dinner. I ordered the miso chashu with a side of tamago. Soup was nice and hot. Noodles were just so-so. The pork belly had a tad too much fat and was not as soft I'd like it to be. The bean sprouts were a nice touch though. All in all, I'd rank Ukokkei behind Hokkaido Ramen Santouka, Ippudo and Ramen Nagi. It's not bad, but you can definitely get better ramen elsewhere.

Ordered the Tantanmen. Broth was flavorful and slightly thick, but the kick was just right. Gyoza was cooked right. I rated Ukokkei a 3 because of the ambiance. I went for dinner service and expected ambient music or silence, but was treated to Yes! FM and a dose of pop culture OPM songs. Staff was rowdy and chatter filled the air. To be fair, I went here for the ramen and not the music, but ambiance is one thing I consider.

So-so experience overall.
