When in Tarlac City....and you're looking for a really good chocolate cake, take the time to look for Urdu Bakeshop and Restaurant. They have THE BEST chocolate cake in town. We have been buying their chocolate cake since I was a little girl and as far as quality and consistency is concerned, it has not changed a bit. I get to buy this once or twice a year when we go home to Tarlac because of birthday celebrations. It's a no fail crowd favorite.

Imagine this - old fashioned chocolate cake that's moist and chocolatey. Two layers of this with a sweet and caramel-y mocha layer in between. It's then frosted with a thick and smooth chocolate ganache. It's not overly sweet so you won't get that "umay" factor right away. It's also reasonably priced at less than 500Php for a square that's a little bigger than that of Polly's.

Urdu also offers some other baked goodies like cheesecakes, San Rival, Mocha Cake, Carrot Cake, cup cakes, brownies, lemon squares, Brazo de Mercedes, revel bars, leche flan, etc etc. They also serve hearty meals, merienda in the form of pancit, backed mac, lasagna and sandwiches. Though this branch is not big, they've got a couple of tables. No fancy ambiance though which is alright because that means that they can keep prices at a minimum.

To get there - from Manila, going North, just after SM Tarlac City, you'll spot La Maja Rica Hotel on your left side. Urdu is one of the tenants outside the hotel, just beside Sussie's Cuisine.

My roommate got a big rectangle-sized chocolate cake for valentines from her lover, cause its her favorite cake from their province (oh the effort of going to tarlac from manila just for this how sweeeeet)

Well now I know why its her favorite!!!!! Moist layer of chocolate cake with caramel filling in between, and the best part is its not sweet. Can't stop eating it!!!!

When in Tarlac City - this chocolate cake from Urdu is a must! I can safely say that it's the best in town!

Imagine - two layers of old fashioned chocolate cake, with a caramel like filling in between, covered with thick and sweet chocolate! Simple but definitely hits the spot. This cake can stand side by side Polly's. Seriously, it's good! Grew up having this during special occasions and everytime I go home to Tarlac City and I need a cake, this cake is the only way!

Minus 1 127775 for the icing used to write my dedication - didn't stand the heat! This is the first time I've had it like this though 128527
