We had a remarkable visit at Va Bene Pasta Deli. Well known for its authentic Italian cuisine, Chef Massimo's made from scratch dishes surely hits the spot.

We visited the branch located at Dasmarinas village Makati where it is quite laid back in style, and the casual vibe feels like home despite seeing a lot of upper class people and foreigners dining at the resto.

During our visit, they had the Bruschetta Promotion where you can choose from the 2 bruschetta sizes:
Normale 25cm (with 1 flavor) 288Php
Grande 60cm (with 2 flavors) 488Php

Normally, the grande would only have 2 flavors in it but you can ask if they could possibly make 3 flavors to fit in. The flavors you can choose from are as follows:

*Milanese- olive oil, cheese mousse, salami milano, arugula, shaved parmesan, balsamic reduction
*Piemontese- olive oil, mushrooms, melted mozzarella cheese, parma ham and tuna sauce
*Piccante- olive oil, garlic, cheese mousse, polpette ragu and chili oil
*Puzzona- olive oil, gorgozola, mortadella and onion
*Carbonara- olive oil, bacon, cheese sauce, sunny side up egg, parmesan cheese
*Cacciatora- olive oil, garlic, braised chicken cacciatora and green olives

My favorites would have been the Carbonara and Piemontese. Bruschettas can be a little heavy so the serving size is always good for sharing.

We also had the best seller pasta called Organic Eggs Tagliatelle- it consists of portabello mushrooms white wine cream sauce and truffle oil. Now I know why it is a crowd favorite! The pasta is al dente and it was actually a little bit thick but the creamy sauce coats and gives enough flavor to the entire dish. Loved the truflle aroma. Another must try pasta is the Black Ink Taglioni. It has a mixed seafood toppings, marinara sauce and light tomato cream sauce. Colorful and beautifully plated, the sauce is spot on and really filling.

The desserts were also outstanding. We were served 2 dishes. One is the Profiteroles A La Milena - caramelized walnuts, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and the other one is Mango Panna Cotta. Both were just lovely and satisfying.

Overall, we had a great time. Very commendable dishes and the staff were friendly. Kudos!

Received an invitation from Chef Massimo Veronesi to visit his restaurant and try their Business Lunch offering.

It was an exciting prospect as I have heard a lot of good things about Va Bene Pasta Deli but have not found the time to drop in for a visit.

Yesterday at 1130, hubby and I found ourselves in a gasoline station along Edsa scouring the 2nd floor building for Va Bene.

I loved that the location was nondescript almost hole-in-the wall. There was no fancy ambiance to distract you . There were no bells and whistles so to speak. There was no gimmickry.. One can solely focus on the food.

BUSINESS LUNCH MENU

CHOICE OF 3 APPETIZERS

MIXED LETTUCE, ROASTED ONIONS, CRISPY
TOMATOES, SHAVED PARMESAN
The greens were crisp. There was romaine and arugula. The tomatoes were dipped in batter and deep fried which provided the texture to the whole dish. The reduced balsamic dressing was sweet and rich.

It does not sound appetizing especially for polenta "virgins" such as myself and the hubby. But when the dish was served, the first things that hit us were its delectable aroma from the gorgonzola, the beautiful mushrooms ( shrooms fiends here) and the simple yet beautiful presentation.

I was drooling and I heard my stomach growl in response to the simultaneous attack on all senses. But I had to take the perfect photo first before we give in to our food lust huhuhu

A few minutes later, we had our first mouthful.

So this was polenta. It was thick with a little texture. It was hot. It married well with the blue-veined goddess of cheese, Gorgonzola . The result was a scrumptious experience the hubby and I are not likely to forget

We spooned the light gold liquid with pieces of mushrooms in our mouth , savoring its richness and flavor. Pretty soon the plate was wiped clean. Mother will be proud.

Hubby kept saying it was his favorite. I had to remind him we were only on our second option for the appetizer. There were 4 more items to taste haha

TOMATO SOUP, MOZZARELLA CHEESE,

Tomato was sweet and fruity , a result of simmering several hours. I tasted the basil pesto which gave the soup a nutty flavor. The bits of mozzarella provided the creamy component. The Squid Ink Quadrucci gave the soup the taste of the ocean. I am suddenly craving for grilled cheese sandwich ....

I looked up at the hubby and right at that moment, I knew he forgot I was there hahaha. He was lost in the sensation of the cheese heaven that was in his mouth vis a vis the flavor and texture of that succulent tortellini with bolognese, just as I was,

I think my eyes rolled at the back of my head for a few brief seconds there. Now this is what you call "foodgasmic"

The dish was pretty straightforward. I loved the taste of the sea thanks to the squid ink linguine which was perfectly al dente. I would have loved more clams and mussels which tasted really fresh. The kick from the chili was a delightful surprise.

CHICKEN MILANESE, MIXED LETTUCE,
FRIED POTATO WEDGES
Although this 3rd option paled in comparison to the two preceding dishes, it was also delicious albeit simple. It appealed to this foodie-on-a-perennial-diet me. . It satisfied my vegetable-protein-carb requirement for the day quite nicely.

SUMMARY :

* competitive pricing

Given the above , Va Bene Pasta Deli's BUSINESS LUNCH is indeed value for money.

For first-time visitors to the restaurant such as myself and the hubby, Va Bene's Business Lunch was a preview almost like an "amuse bouche" if you will , offering a brief glimpse to the gastronomic vista that Va Bene has in its roster which we can not wait to explore

It goes without saying that we shall be regular patrons from now on.

I can still vividly remember 6 years ago, this Va Bene branch in Petron EDSA Makati station was packed on my very first visit. My friends and I patiently waited for our turn outside. The place is relatively small, and they were able to welcome then twice its usual capacity. Last Friday, on Chef Massimo’s invitation, this humble Italian deli was still busy with patrons. I expected that.

You simply cannot live without authentic Italian cuisine from the owner and executive chef, Chef Massimo Veronesi. Chef personally accommodated me and my girlfriend, Mia all night with his usual warm and joyful service.

We got to indulge then his version of cheese and salami buffet. It had a stretch of familiar cheeses and cold cuts. Some of the spread was new to me like the Mushrooms Salad (shitake, button mushrooms with olives and caramelized onions) and Grana Padano 18 months Italian cheese. All of these we had, as much our tummy’s desire on the house.

Our table also got an appetizing plate of Organic Eggs Tagliatelle. It had generous amounts of portobello mushrooms in white wine cream sauce and loads of truffle oil. Mia enjoyed this one, even brought it home, had it for breakfast the following day. For dessert, we settled for Sweet Mia, a simple yet delectable cup of vanilla ice cream, organic honey, extra virgin oil and almond slices.

Anyway, Chef Massimo got something new for you this love month! So call up your date soon. If you avail any of three of the cheeses below, you get an unlimited platter for only Php 390+, choose 6, for Php 620+! These will be served nicely on a chopping wooden board.

Grana Padano 18 months(cow milk, harmonious dry, intense with traces of grass)

Gorgonzola 12 months (cow milk with buttery taste)

Pecorino Romano (Lazio Sardinia sheep’s milk, intense flavor)

Fontina Mountain Cheese (Piedmont region cow milk, semi-soft, creamy and light aroma)

Emmental (yellow, medium hard)

Gouda (cow milk from the Netherlands, mild yellow)

Cheddar (relatively hard and saltier, mild yellow)

Asiago cow milk from Veneto region, buttery).

On top of your cheese choices, you can also order the following below as you wish, individually. These unique creations are only available this February. They are priced differently, so I suggest inquiring in person.

Have you been to this famous spot in Makati? When many restaurants open here and there, Va Bene still remains one of my go to places for authentic Italian. They currently have three branches, the two others are in Central Square, BGC and Circuit Makati.

My date took me for dinner in a gas station last night. Hehe yes! Its across Pasay Road @ Va Bene Pasta Deli.

The place has lots of my favorite olives and capers, as well as wine decorated all over the place. I believed their selling these items. The place has simple dining area. Heard and read lots of good reviews, and I was excited while waiting for our orders. Btw, my date call the shots128522

We had:

Polipo- braised octupus thinly sliced, dried tomatoes, arugula, amd lemon dressing. First timer for this thinly sliced octopus and enjoyed it with my favorite arugula.

Nonna Gnocchi -Italian sausage,portobello mushrooms, prawns, taleggio cheese. Did my research of what is Gnocchi. Its a soft dough made of ordinary flour or potatoes, with eggs & cheese. These are often cut into small bite size and usually eaten as replacement to pasta.... hmmm we had pasta too128540

Organic Eggs Tagliatelle-portobello mushrooms, white wine cream sauce, truffle oil. - Fettuccine is soft. I rarely enjoy white sauce pasta, the truffle oil is so glorious.

Verdict: a nice place to enjoy italian dishes. Everything we had last night is delicious and has superb flavors. Price is reasonable for quality of dishes.

Taste of food, quality of pasta and price all good. I think they just need to improve on Service. They have one waitress juggling between 6 full tables. Wine took forever to be brought out. When we followed up she would shout to her assistant loud enough for the small restaurant to hear "hoy yung wine". Later, "hoy water daw". Such a disappointment for a dependable restaurant. Was also disappointed that the lobster pasta was out of stock and might be removed from
Menu.

Plenty of seats, small and cozy, snappy attendants, great customer service, food served warm and tastes fresh, non-stop italian music.

Braised Chicken Pansotti - Fantastic white sauce i slurped every drop, yum, pasta and chicken combo soft at bite, like eating molo swimming in white sauce, yum!

Black Ink Tagliolini - Valentina's snake hair at first glance, but it does taste nice, soft pasta, fresh taste.

Ricotta Eggplant Tortellini - Spicy, tasty tomato sauce, pesto all over, powerful spices, bursting with flavor, yum!

Sweet Mia - That sweet thick super tasty syrup with tiny almond toppings and vanilla ice cream, fanstastic combination, ill return for this, yum!

Homemade Profiteroles - like cream puff stuffed with meat from shepherd's pie, nice but the ice cream and the sea of walnuts and chocolate sauce, i scooped every bit, yum!

Place is very accessible, parking available, forgot to check if they have wifi. Every peso well spent, fine italian food yum!

A small deli located above a gasoline station has been serving out the best Italian dishes in the Metro.

They go by Va Bene.  I haven't eaten a lot of raviolis in my lifetime but lemme tell you this - Va Bene make a mean Italian dumpling.  This is the kind of dish that i wanna bring home and sleep with (not in the weird way).  You can tell that they make the ravioli from scratch,  i cant find the right adjective to describe it.  This is the ravioli that makes other raviolis bad. 

Prices are a bit steep but it is worth every dime.  If you want to be transported to Ravioli Haven,  head on over to Va Bene.

I wanted to try something new. I know it's Friday, payday, plus traffic, but it didn't bother me.

Got there around 9:30pm and they were about to close the restaurant.

We tried the following---

Lobster & Prawns cappellacci - lobster lisque sauce (P590)

Braised Chicken Pansotti - Ravioli, gargonzola cheese sauce (P390)

Amore Cheesecake Strawberry Ice cream (P280)

For someone that's hungry, food wasn't warm enough. It was very flavorful though and the serving size was enough for a single order.

Would I come back? Sure, but not anytime soon.

What made this place stand out among other Italian restaurants is the choice selection of wines, cheeses and ham. It's also a secret where the owner and chef gets them, which I am still trying to find out. The next killer app of this restaurant is the freshly made pasta. Now that is a half way trip to Italy. The pasta dishes at 500 pesos is the return ticket. I will personally treat you to dinner if it falls below your expectations. Elevating this restaurant above the rest are the salads and appetizers, since you can see all the pics in past posts. Believe me, you have to try it all. Desserts, besides having an in house selection. You hit 2 birds with one stone, it's besides Cuervo and UCC Park. My only complaint if ever would be the cooling system since its not capable of serving a full house on a hot summer luncheon. Oh and first timers not knowing what to order, ask the cook or chef if available to cook you some huge meatballs and sausage Pasta ala First GodFather! Enjoy!!!!

I ordered the Organic Eggs Tagliatelle. The portobello mushrooms, together with the white wine cream sauce, and truffle oil worked so well together in making such a heavenly dish. My boyfriend ordered the Papardelle which had braised lamb shank, black olives, sundried tomatoes, and pecorino cheese. It was also a very appetizing dish! However, he was disappointed to find out that they no longer serve pizzas and the Strawberries a la Milena (his favorite dessert) in this branch. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed our dinner and we had a great time.

It's recommended that you call ahead and make a reservation if you're planning to eat here. The place is small and it usually gets full pretty fast. I hope you enjoy their pastas as much as we did!
