R and I decided to avoid the Valentine's Day mayhem in Manila and went to Tagaytay for a nice short break. We arrived in two hours on a Friday night and enjoyed the cool breeze of the city. Thinking that most people will celebrate Valentine's on Saturday, we decided to head back to Manila early afternoon of the 14th but we were stuck in traffic and Waze said that it will take us a long time before reaching Nuvali. Without hesitation, we made a U-turn and opted to head back to R's apartment. But since we were hungry, we made a quick stop at this Filipino restaurant called Siglo.

Hello, Siglo Modern Filipino.

I was a bit iffy to stop by this place as I couldn't find reviews about it. (Apparently, it is under View Park Hotel as it is the hotel's restaurant.) But hungry people stuck in crazy traffic cannot be choosy.

The restaurant serves typical Tagaytay specialties such as Bulalo (PHP350) and Tawilis (PHP150). We opted to get those as well as Chocolate Milk Shake and Strawberry Smoothie (PHP125 each) from its neighbor Adam's Cafe.

Our drinks arrived in 15 minutes or so and both were very sweet. In fact, too sweet. It was like slurping dessert on a hot day. Not exactly something ideal to be paired with our meal but it was okay to battle the early summer heat.

After almost an hour, our dishes were finally served. The waiter apologized and said that it took them a while to make the bulalo as they had to make sure that the meat's tender. (True enough, it does take at least 3 hours to make really good bulalo. But the long wait was not acceptable.)

We enjoyed our meal without uttering a word. Yes, we were that hungry!

The bulalo was indeed tender and quite flavorful. It was almost just like my mom's bulalo. Siglo added banana instead of corn for that slight sweet taste. Honestly, I prefer corn but I guess they ran out of it due to the unexpected influx of people who were also stuck in traffic.

The tawilis was so-so. It was nothing extraordinary and it did not make much of an impression. Then again, there really is nothing much to expect from deep-fried fish unless the atchara or sauce is spectacular.

Overall, it was a filling meal and it didn't hurt our wallets. Will I come back? Perhaps not as I could easily get those dishes elsewhere. But if you're stuck in traffic near Picnic Grove, this place could save you from hunger.

One of the best hotels to stay when in Tagaytay! Booked for a weekend getaway for my partner and I to celebrate our 7th Anniversary! We wanted a hotel that is very accessible and at the same time affordable for back-packers like us! We of course also wanted a serene place where we can reflect and talk about our future plans. (Yiheee).

I loved the easy and hassle-free online booking with View Park Hotel. Plus the fact that the overnight stay was very affordable. We opted for the Standard Room and paid for Php 2,000. It comes with complimentary breakfast for two, bottled water and free access to their amenities. This hotel is somewhat you-get-what-you-see-hotel. No drama and stupid rules!!! If you want to be stress-free booking for a hotel , try View Park Hotel! Confirmation is sent to your email right away.

The staff were nice and courteous that they would attend to all your queries and special requests.

After the booking confirmation, the receptionist asked me right away if we want a wake up call the next morning. I respectfully declined. But I really appreciated the offer. I've been in more expensive hotels in Manila but not all of them would offer the same.

It was raining when we arrived in the hotel and it happened that our room is located on a separate building next where their restaurant and front desk were located. The staff accompanied us with their big black umbrellas and even carried all of our belongings. I can tell from there that they've got good customer service and trained their people well. Who wouldn't love the feeling of being well taken care of and being attended to?

Given that it was a Standard Room, I didn't expect much. The room was enough for two with a Television and a Closet on the side. It also comes with a bedside table and two chairs. It was simple and well maintained. I immediately checked the restroom and I would say not bad. They've got a working heater!!! It was worth staying the cold night in such a homey and simple room like that.

I also loved that our room was located next to a Garden and the Pool. Sadly, due to limited time, I wasn't able to do even a quick dip. We had some photo opts instead the next sunny day. It was windy and the blue sky was clearly seen from the pool. Exactly the place we were looking for.

We then had our breakfast in their restaurant, Red Mango. The staff there were also accommodating. He gave us a lot of amusing trivia about Tagaytay, View Park Hotel, and the restaurant itself. While eating, he also gave us a complimentary newspaper exclusively for Tagaytay that we could read on.

He actually made me think he is one of the part owners. Haha. Anyway, our breakfast meal comes with a choice of hot coffee or juice. The food was okay in a good way.

It was a Monday morning so there were only a few vehicles passing by the road. By the way, one reason I chose View Park Hotel is because it is only across Picnic Grove.

I can still remember how it felt having breakfast with the one you love, chit-chatting over a hot coffee and great background music, with a view of dancing trees outside. We had the restaurant all by ourselves that morning and I felt so contented I don't want to leave yet.

But we had no choice. Haha. After breakfast, we had a quick tour to Picnic Grove and made our check out before lunch.

I will definitely come back here with more people I love. It wasn't fancy but you've got everything you need here. It would give you the relaxation and peace of mind you need while you are away from the city.

So here are Five Stars for View Park Hotel!!!

The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I can't stress enough how important that is for me. We booked the Junior Suite, which was not that all spacious and the aircon was terrible. The place was beautiful although it didn't have a view of the Taal. Overall, the place was average.

The hotel doesn't have the best facilities, heck there's no other way to contact a hotel staff other than going to the hallway hoping that a bellboy is within the area. However, they are so nice and friendly, they are always willing to help carry bags etc. hence the five stars 128522
Tried their massage too, it was very good for P499
