When I first heard of Village Tavern’s Black Pizza, my taste buds shouted and asked me to try it. Coincidentally, Cindy S gave me TBG gift certs so I immediately asked her and Edison A to eat at Village Tavern one Friday night.

We arrived at 9pm and the restaurant was almost full. In fact, we initially seated at the bar and we were just transferred to a bigger table soon after one group called for their bill. I immediately ordered their Black Pizza (575php). This has parmesan, gruyere, mozzarella, Monterey jack cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, red bell peppers, onion, and of course everybody’s favorite, bacon. The pizza tasted delicious. I was so happy that it didn’t disappoint and somehow met my expectations. It was also very photogenic. And yes, we can use that word for food. Why is the dough black? It must be a squid ink dough pizza. We also ordered Blackened Shrimp (550php) that’s good for sharing. This has generous serving of shrimps in Bayou cream sauce paired with grilled sourdough bread. The sauce went well with the shrimps. It had this salty and creamy finish that screams party in your mouth. Perfect with the sourdough bread. Since it was a Friday night, we partnered our food with Red Sangria (180php per glass). I must say, we made a right choice. Their Sangria has a strong alcohol content based on what I tasted. I’m not complaining though. 128541

The service was pretty fast during this visit. I loved that the servers were very attentive to our needs. The restaurant’s set-up is more of a mixture of modern + tavern-ish. It’s rustic yet elegant. The chandelier is nice!

P.S. Village Tavern has only 1 branch in the Philippines. Yup, it’s in BGC. 128513

Food was OK. But we spent 1,700 for this. So quality does not meet price.

It has been almost a year since my office moved to Fort and till now I hardly walk around after work. For one, I want to go home before it gets dark. Second, it’s expensive to explore here! Third, I hoarded a lot of snacks from my trips. 128547 But I do treat myself a good meal on certain days when I feel I deserve it. And a few weeks back, I invited E to join me for dinner and we went to…

Village Tavern.

I was first to arrive and the server led me to a corner table (near the al fresco part of the restaurant) and I politely asked her to move me to another table as I noticed that the area had a lot of mosquitoes. I refuse to be the mosquitoes’ dinner. She then led me to the table near the bar and it was a lot better. Soon, E arrived.

Since we got there before 7PM, we managed to score some Happy Hour drinks. I ordered Red Sangria (PHP95 before 7PM, PHP180 regular price) while E went for Long Island Iced Tea (PHP95 before 7PM, PHP155 regular price). We also ordered Roasted Bone Marrow (PHP365) and Black Pizza (PHP550).

The Roasted Bone Marrow was sinful and quite weird too. We put a bit of bone marrow goodness on the sourdough and sprinkled a bit of salt and added the greens that went with the dish.

It tasted okay but quite far from the bone marrow dish I had from Cue.

The Black Pizza arrived next and it was a pretty pie. The vibrant colors of the toppings had a nice contrast with the dark dough. The taste was just as good. Village Tavern’s signature black pizza dough topped with ground beef, parmesan, gruyere, mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, bell pepper and onions was wonderful. It wasn’t too salty or overpowering.

The sangria was great too. It was sweet and refreshing. I took my time with it though which was a mistake. It ended up being diluted in water (melted ice). 128557

It was one filling dinner. I’ll definitely be back and try Village Tavern’s salmon dish next time.

Happy 300th review to me! 🍾127881

Have you ever tried a black pizza before?

I have heard and read about Village Tavern's Black Pizza right here in looloo... I found it interesting, but with the many newly opened restaurants, I have never been able to get around trying it...

So when I was told that we will be spending Valentines Day in BGC, I insisted on dinner at Village Tavern. Good time to use my Bistro Card and vouchers as well...

When we got there, I ordered the Cowboy Chips as a starter immediately... Tried this during the looloo food tour and it left an impression!128077 These are thinly sliced potato chips topped with cheese sauce, applewood smoked bacon and pico de gallo. Goes really well with beer and this place has a wide selection of alcohol to choose from.

The Black Pizza is their signature among their many choices. The dough tasted like there were herbs mixed in, subtle but it's there... It has a mix of parmesan, gruyere, and mozarella cheeses with ground beef, pepperoni and mushrooms... It deserves its status as one of their bestsellers... The flavors blended well together and you can taste everything that they put on that pizza... The size is big enough for two people to share... Delish!128076🏻

Finally, we tried their truffle burger, which utilizes Wagyu beef for its' patty... The beef was cooked perfectly and was accentuated by the truffle mayo, cheese and shitake mushrooms piled on top... It comes with a heap of fries on the side... Excellent burger!128156

VT not only churns out great food but they excel in the cocktails that they make as well... We got there before 7pm, so we were able to take advantage of their early bird promo... 20% off their drinks... I got myself a Mango mojito while the bf tried one of Gordon Biersch's brews...

The staff were friendly enough... Food was served fast... The whole place was very clean and pleasant... Glad to have a Bistro Card because the meal was not cheap...128517 Try it sometime, it's good!128515

Disclaimer: This is a late post/review.

I own a Bistro Card and I'm amazed by the many perks I get out of it, ie, on Mondays you get 30% off your total bill and Tuesdays-Sundays you get 20% off your total bill. The card costs P2500 (valid for 1 year), kind of expensive if you're not fond of the Bistro Group restaurants but 10 vouchers worth P250 each also comes with the card! Best part is you can use the voucher together with the card!!!! Not a bad deal if you're like me who wants to eat at good places but still wants to save money 128540

Anyway, I went out with a friend on a Monday and thought of eating somewhere we could use my Bistro Card (kailangan sulitin ang P2500). We went to about 3 Bistro restaurants for early dinner, drinks and dessert. Village Tavern was one of our destinations. We ordered their Warm Butter Cake that comes in 2 sizes, the mini (P250) and the regular (P495). We only got the mini butter cake because we were already full and we only had a little space left in our tummies.

The Warm Butter Cake was very good. I liked the texture of the cake and it wasn't too sweet. The vanilla ice cream and fruits complemented it!!! I even had a free cup of coffee (another of the many bistro card perks) to go with it! Super naenjoy ko talaga. If we weren't so full from dinner, we could've ordered the regular one! I wonder if the other desserts on their menu are also good, I'm actually eyeing on trying the VT Carrot Cake next time.

Overall, I liked my VT experience! The waiters were not as attentive as I expected them to be but I don't want to blame them because the restaurant actually had a different layout. Wala na nga kami binayaran, magrereklamo pa ako. Yes, our bill was P0. 128523 can you just imagine how happy I was after??? 128517 win-win for me in all aspects!!! Good food, free coffee, free dessert 10024

Mexican (Php650.00):
This Village Tavern’s Premium Wagyu Burger has chili con carne, spicy queso (cheese) sauce and crisp onion rings beautifully sits on top of the juicy wagyu patty. The heat slowly builds up but is nothing you can’t handle. Don’t forget to include the cilantro to complete that Mexican experience. 127828

Last last week, I was "fortunate" enough to be invited by the awesome people behind |ooloo to join them and this was the first ever |ooloo food tour! Awesome, right?!?! 128525128513128588🏼

I've only eaten here once last year because of a looloo special (I downloaded looloo just for this special: Free Bacon Flatbread! #user 128541).

Thursday was wear corporate attire day at the office so I was wearing a dress. First stop pa lang, I was already regretting not bringing extra clothes or a hoodie (for cover up 128517). Oh well! 128518

For this stop, they served us with their new dishes. I was not able to try everything 128546 but I did liked the ones I tried! 128523128077🏼

PRETZEL
First reaction was -- "Wow, that's huge!" and we were all like "how do we eat that?". Good thing, the kind and nice servers solved that problem for us 128513 The pretzel was soft and buttery and very tasty. Even without any dip, it was already yummy on its own. 9786

COWBOY CHIPS
Thin crispy potato chips with cheese sauce, jalapeño and bacon. This one's really good, not too oily plus it's made with real potatoes! 128513

RIBS!!!! 128588🏼128588🏼128588🏼
The ribs were oh so good! 128525 We were served two rib dishes: Tijuana Style Ribs and Kentucky Style Ribs. Both were good but I liked the Kentucky Style more. Super flavorful and fall of the bone tender! The ribs were served with potato fries and sweet potato fries. I liked the sweet potato fries more. It was fried perfectly and it was not oily, at all. Everyone loved this! Would definitely be back for this! 128069

Everything was really good! 128076🏼 Service is also good here. Everyone were nice and very accommodating. This restaurant can easily be anyone's favorite place because of their good comfort food + warm and friendly staff + chill nice place! 128521 Would love to bring my family, friends and boyfriend here next time!! 9786128077🏼

I was invited to the first-ever #LoolooFoodTour 9786️ Yay! 127881

Our first stop was Village Tavern. I've always wanted to try their food here. Whenever my bf and I stop by BGC to support our DJ friend or to attend a friend's bday celeb, we always look at Village Tavern and think: Let's try that place! *points to VT* and then I realize that I either left my Bistro card in the car or I left it at home. We always just tell ourselves, "okay, next time" and next time finally came last July 9, 2015!

We were first wowed by their Fresh Baked Pretzel. It's a soft pretzel that comes with 3 sauces (honey mustard, some tomatoey sauce *not ketchup*, and some mayo based sauce) I liked the honey mustard the best. The pretzel's outside is smooth and the inside was soft and pillowy. It's presentation was the best among everything that we had at the Looloo Food Tour. The soft pretzel hung on this metal hook while the three dipping sauces sit at the bottom looking cute (see instagram.com/veanney08 if you wanna see how it looks like)! 9786️ I thought at first that they were gonna flambé it, but they didn't. And if they did, I think it would have burnt the pretzel cos it was already dark to begin with. Haha! Don't worry it wasn't burnt or over baked it was just right! This would be a good starter if you're celebrating an occasion as the presentation is a gift in itself!

We were also given colorful drinks to try from their cocktail list. The most notable one was the cocktail served in two separate glasses and you need to pour the contents of the one with the grape shaped glass into the mason jar mug. I wasn't able to catch the name of this drink but it's the only one that comes in a pair so it'll be easy for the server to identify this for you! (I'll post this on instagram.com/veanney08 so you can show that to the waiter if you wanna order it) I'm not into alcoholic drinks so all of the mojito we were served were just okay for me 128539

I then tried the Crispy Cuttlefish (aka Calamares/Calamari) uhm... It was okay but not great. The brava sauce underneath was bland.

I also dug into the Tavern Nachos. This is yet another noteworthy appetizer and it's also good for sharing. Crisp thin potato chips with lots of toppings and cheeeeeese (I'm a sucker for cheese)! Yum 128523

My favorite dish from the entire Looloo Food Tour was from Village Tavern too! The Deviled Eggs! This comes in 6 halves of an egg (basically 3 eggs split in half) 128514 Deviled eggs, if you're not familiar, is a hard boiled egg. You take the yolk out and cream it together with yummy ingredients and then pipe it back into the place where the yolk was. What makes this set of beautiful eggs unique and more delicious is the cured lamb belly (from heaven 128124🏻) atop the creamy yolk. THIS IS A MUST ORDER DISH‼️128523128523 (now you know why I chose to display this picture) 128514

Moving on to the mains, we had two racks of ribs both served with a side of your typical potato fries and another side of sweet potato fries. The potato fries was good but nothing special. I particularly enjoyed their sweet potato fries. It was sweet, crisp outside, soft inside and it wasn't greasy! 127839 The first rack of ribs we had was the Tijuana ribs (not the exact name) this one had a lighter sauce. I think it's some sort of honey glaze. This was yummy and fall-off-the-bone just like any other order of ribs from any bistro group resto (i think they have a thing for ribs) 128514 The second rack of ribs had a heavier sauce which was the BBQ ribs (also not the actual name) i prefer this over the first one but both were superb!

After a looong photoshoot with these dishes we wrapped up our food trip here with a selfie/we-fie/ussie 9786

This is my 4th review for Village Tavern and my first disappointment. Ordered Snapper Hemingway for lunch and my expectations were high. Alas, I was quickly brought down to earth (and maybe even the gutter) after I took a bite out of that snapper. The fish was hard, like it was over cooked or old. It came in several portions, which by itself, is already strange and raised some of my subconscious alarm bells. But this was Village Tavern so I thought a bite from the bigger portion may be good. I was wrong. Sad day for me at the Tavern. 128546128546128546

If you are a big fan of cocktails, read on! Village Tavern has amazing cocktails to satisfy your alcoholic thirst 128518

During the |ooloo food tour, they had us try their Mojitos - apple, pineapple and mango. Each was made with a puree of fresh fruit, Tanduay White, mint leaves of course, ice, Sprite on top and some more fresh fruit cubes! Off all three, the Mango Mojito appealed most to me. The way it mixed with the alcohol and mint was so refreshing! If you come in early, before 7PM, a mug of Mojito (about 16oz) is only for 95Php. After which, each order goes back to its regular price of 175Php.

Then there was Black Widow. Served in a cute glass container that reminded me of a heart with valves, you'll get tequila and cranberry juice in it. Then, the mug has some ice, cranberries, basil leaves and a slice of lemon. Pour in the tequila and then the cranberry juice, mix it all up and you'll get this really good cocktail! Also offered at 95Php before 7PM and 180Php after.

Lastly, they also had us try their Bob Marley Shooters. True to it's name, it had beautiful layers of the Rasta colors - red, yellow and green (which turned bluish in the shooters probably because of the mixing with yellow). It had rhum, limoncello and grenadine. Wasn't able to try this but those who did said that it was good. Get this for a good treat of 375Php before 7PM since it's regular price is at 505Php.

It was a rainy Thursday afternoon and I was invited to the first ever looloo food tour, in coorperation with the Bistro Gourp. I was so excited about this since I am a BIG fan of the Bistro Group and we have been frequently using our Premiere Bistro Group Card since 2011. Fish & Co., Krazy Garlik, Bulgogi Brothers are our staples while Italianni's, TGI Friday's and my personal favotite, Village Tavern are reserved for special occasions. Since we were to meet-up in BHS Central, I knew that we will start off with Village Tavern. Imagine, a sponsored food binge from my favorite Bistro Group restaurant! So much win!

When we got there, I immediately noticed that they have installed a partition separating the main dining area from bar area. Not a big deal really, it just made the restaurant look a little cramped. As we got in, we were welcomed by the manager of Village Tavern together with the overall head for the Bistro Card. They served dish after dish and even gave us the chance to try some of their cocktails.

We started off with this appetizer called the Cowboy Chips. Thin slices of fried potato, topped with a creamy cheese sauce, bacon, salsa and more melted cheese! Great way to start the feast!

Then this HUGE pretzel, found it's way to our table. It came with three dips - honey mustard, a tomato based one and another one that was a little spicy. Of all, the honey mustard dip was the one that went well with the pretzel. The pretzel itself had a crispy crust and a soft and warm center. I loved that they used sourdough instead of regular bread.

More from their Small Plates menu, we got to sample their Crispy Cuttlefish dish. Thinly sliced squid that have been slightly breaded and then deep fried. Perfectly seasoned with a crunch from each bite. This was served on a bed of tomato sauce that was somewhat spicy.

Then the Devilled Eggs. Loved this dish! Boiled eggs with spicy egg yolk, topped with some sprouts, drizzled with some olive oil and finished off with generous strips of cured lamb belly. The lamb belly gave this dish a different twist. It was smoky and the flavor of lamb, which by the way is something I like, was full.

Then with the mains. They made us try two kinds of ribs - Tijuana Style Ribs and Kentucky Style Ribs.

Tijuana Style Ribs gave a Texmex flavor. It was a little spicy but this smokey slab of baby back ribs had a strong mix of herbs and spices. The meat was so tender with ample trimmings of fat. It was topped with fresh cilantro, some cubed tomatoes, jalapenos and onions. It also came in with potato and sweet potato fries. Highly recommended!

Next is the Kentucky Style Ribs. Perfect if you want that barbecue flavor in your ribs. Smokey with that sweet and salty barbecue sauce, the meat was perfectly tender!

We were also given the chance to try some of their cocktails - Mojitos, Black Widow and Bob Marley shooters - which are worthy to be given a separate review.

Sad that they didn't have us try their desserts 128514

LOVED the overall service that night. The staff were very knowledgeable of thier dishes and cocktails. So impressive.

Still the top Bistro Group restaurant for me and one of our family favorites.

the relatively crowded restaurant was kind of telling. i and the boss got cowboy chips, roasted pork belly and ten spice glazed salmon. the appetizer was so-so, but the mains were solid and very satisfying given the huge serving. won't mind coming back with more friends or family next time.
