Again, away from the elegance and high class restaurants of BGC or Makati, this place has some feel of comfort and home. The not so clean and bright wanchai at benavides offers good Chinese food. It can accommodate at least 80 pax. It was around 2pm then there were no customers except the owners and some of her friends. The staff of course entertained me immediately.

128204 beef brisket la mien at 145php
La can be translated as hand pulled while mien is noodles. I like beef to go with la mien cause it adds flavor to the soup and it's easy to eat. The serving was huge and the noodles were quite fat. However there was an unusual scent. It was a pungent beef. Now i wonder why some people doesn't like beef--it's this scent that makes the dish a little repulsive; however when you eat it, everything just tastes surreal beef.

Originally at 145PhP but since its wanchai's anniversary, la mien are only 100pesos! What a coincidence! CR is quite dirty pero bagay naman sa restaurant.. Separate male from female and has a joint washroom. Total ambiance was dirty homey. 128513

I love Chinese Food!

One of my favorite chinese resto. I usully eat here when I'm in Binondo.

The food here is great. Just don't expect the place to be that clean. Typical in Chinese restos.

Also don't expect attentive servers. They usually chat with each other and won't attend to your needs immediately.

My mom wanted to eat here after one of our relatives recommended the place. Being chinese, she's a big supporter of chinese food (never nagsasawa 128518) that's why we never go a week without eating Chinese food.

My mom took control of ordering. My sister and I just requested for the mini cuapao. Since we had it, we've been addicted to it!

Here are our orders:

Hakaw, pork siomai, sharksfin, Chicken feet- Dimsum were ok. Siomai had a lot of pieces of fat in it. For pork fat lovers, this is the place to be! My mom said the chicken feet were good.

Hand pulled noodles soup- my sister said it was too salty. My mom and i thought it was okay naman. It had dumplings, beef slices, and bok choy; Typical ingredients of a noodle soup. Nothing special to it, even the noodles tasted like normal noodles lang.

Cold cuts- contained peanuts, marinated jelly fish, slices of roast duck, chicken, crispy pork belly, asado and century egg. Stand outs were the succulent duck and very crispy skin of the pork belly.

128247 golden flakes mini fried cuapao (8pcs for 45Php!)- our favorite out of everything we ordered. It could be crispier though. Condensed milk + fried cuapao is a match made in heaven.

Split between Wai Ying and Wan Chai.. But Mom wanted Dimsum and Wan Chai has an Anniversary Promo of Php 47 for all Dimsum (Except Hakao).

Their Dimsum is delicious but nothing spectacular. It's a steal though for P47 / order.

Service needs to be improved. Although the dimsum arrived quickly some of our orders were wrong even if they repeated our orders correctly. (We ordered Camaron Rebosado what came out was Salted Pepper Squid.. Ang layo.. 128548) We asked if they have Crab Omelette (order taker asked another colleague) they replied with no (Wala). So we rephrased and asked if they have Crab Foo Young instead same reply (Wala daw). But Mom was craving for it so we re-checked the Menu.. Lo and behold there was a Crab Foo Young in the Menu (Pictured Above 128514) Wala daw... TSE! 128548

That's not all, when we finished we asked the waitress for the bill and also asked for the leftovers for takeout. We were also going to order 2 BolaBola Siopao for takeout and was talking to here while she was bussing out the items for takeout. And while we were still talking to her for our additional takeout she frowned, turned and walked away (habang nagsasalita pa kami 128563). Wow! Guess she's having a bad day then? Bastos. Walang modo. 128548128548128548

But wait, there's more... When the bill came, I double checked aaaand... Salted Peppered Squid was listed although it wasn't part of the order and we never accepted it. The number of the dimsum was also wrong. It was lacking by two orders, but we were too honest to point it out to them plus the waitress this time (different one) was all smiles and very pleasant. Had them change the entries, re-checked, paid, and gave the waitress Php 100 just for smiling at us. 9996128513

Went to Binondo for the first time to satisfy my dimsum craving. I should have done a research on which restaurants could satisfy me best but Wan Chai was good enough for the experience.

We ordered Hakaw and Kuchay Dumplings. They were very dry and the hakaw didn't appeal to me as a bestseller, really. But the kuchay was somehow good. I expected something better, though.

But, I'm glad I ordered Buchi. It was the best buchi I've had so far. I love the crispy sesames and the filling. I even wanted to take out another order but maybe I'd just come back for it.

Also, we loved their Wanton Beef and Seafood Pancit Canton. The wanton beef was nothing short of a perfect noodles. I was telling my dad that the noodles were perfectly cooked, just firm, not sticky, and just great! And the soup was very well seasoned. I loved everything in that bowl. The chef was sure spot on on every ingredient and seasoning deliberately done to drive someone crazy over that dish. And although I was already full, the seafood pancit canton was stealing the spot light with that sweet and delicious, thick sauce.

Although my high expectation of authentic and good dimsum was not met, I left Binondo with a happy tummy and with bags of hopia from Eng Bee Tin! 128516 How I love Chinese food!

Although I always eat Chinatown food (whatever that means 128539), I don't really write about them much. It's like blogging home-cooked dishes all the time 128521 However, since I haven't eaten here for at least a month; I guess it's worth a review.

So, I had siomai, radish cake (personal favorite snack) and golden flakes fried mini cuapao. They're all ok but I noticed that the raddish cakes are really very soft to a fault, crumbling and slightly less-radishy 128542 the mini cuapao was a pleasant surprise; reminds me of Tasty's silver bread roll! (Of course, the latter was much better)

Not as good as it used to be but I will still go back, no place like home! Still hope they don't deteriorate in quality.. 128563

The gulaman was great but the variety of dumplings tastes the same. The place were not so cozy , the location and the tea house itself. I find it neutral.

Visited Wanchai and tried siopao for merienda.

For 22 years, it was my first time to eat bola-bola siopao and the Wanchai Special did not disappoint.

The siopao costed me 75 pesos and you can see real meat, some shrimps, and veggies.

Nom nom nom :)

Good food, bad service ( very bad ). I like the food though but how they serve is a no no. We ask for water for 10x but nothing arrives. It took us 1 hour waiting for our orders. I really dont reccomend this place for people with short patience. No standard. I hope their crew gets proper training serving.

Just average tasting dimsum - but not bad for the price of Php 75-90 per order. Just got a bit disappointed with their version of my all time favorite dimsum hakao- i found the wrapper a bit thick and the shrimp wasn't so fresh. 128532

I was in a hurry to go to Lucky Chinatown Mall to get something so I told my brother to order for me. Big mistake. LOL.

Well, not really. I'm just not into Sweet and Sour Pork. Whenever we order this dish in a restaurant, I'd never try it cause I find it too gooey for my taste. 128517

Since my brother ate the same dish, I asked him what his rating would be for this. He said he'd give it a 4/5 because he has tasted something better, apparently also in Binondo! Although he really liked this one. Hefty serving for an affordable price!
