Here's another go to place for me, for a quick below Php200 lunch.

Today I ordered Spicy Salmon Maki, which is surprisingly good and not gamey at all.

So if I'm their suki, why a 3? Well, the rice meals have soggy sticky rice, too saucy for my taste. A lot of their offers are fried, kinda difficult for me to digest.

I've complained about their service before, because their evening manager does not pay attention to you if you don't make it apparent that you are reviewing the place. Their service can also be really slow.

Their coffee is good, but I get it for free using my Bistro card.

Aaaand, sorry to gross you guys out but I did see a roach crawling on the glass divider by their grill.🖓

Slow service and food was blah. :( There are many more restaurants that offer the same food that taste better and are cheaper. Disappointed how inefficient they were too. They need to be more friendly and cheerful.

Average food bad service is how I sum up my experience here.

First of all the food was nothing out of the ordinary. Just your garden variety Japanese food. Some of the yakitori we ordered was bland and the uni didn't look that appetizing.

The service was worse though. Being the first on to dine for the day, we expected a complete menu. To our dismay, they did not have tuna or salmon sashimi. While eating they would serve us the orders. What took the cake though was when the server spilled an entire container of toothpick on my sauce. Lucky for him I was in a good mood that day.

I am not dining there again and I would not recommend the place to others.

Thank you, Japan!

Product: we got the Salmon Sashimi, Skewers (Chicken Thigh, Roasted Beef & Spring Onion Roll, and Bacon Quail Egg), Tempura, Beef Pepper Rice, and some Houseblended Iced Tea.

The salmon was soft and easy to slice, it gives that "melt in your mouth" feel to it. You can tell that it was cooked for a long time yet it still gives the raw flavor that it needs to have. The sauce could be better, I feel like it doesn't bring out the flavor of the sashimi but it does add to it.

The chicken was really good. If your kids don't seem to like anything on the menu, I bet that they would love this one. It is just like roasted chicken, marinated so well that the flavor is there up to the last bite. Two thumbs up! The roasted beef also had a lot of flavor but the onion roll balances it out, it is sweet and savory in the best way possible. The bacon quail egg reminded me of a famous filipino street food but with a twist, the ever lovable, bacon. I didn't regret choosing this because how can you go wrong with bacon?

The tempura had probably the least-flour-and-more-shrimp tempura I have ever had and that was amazing, not only are they big they also taste amazing, with or without the sauce. I just couldn't get enough but sadly, my tummy did.

The beef pepper rice was served in such a cool way, two servers came to us and asked if they can mix the rice for us, and we said yes. It was very fun to watch. The taste was okay, it had a generous amount of beef, I can tell you that. However, It did lack a bit of sauce into it. I was thinking that this was a more authentic kind of taste. Nonetheless, it is still delicious.

The iced tea, was bitter and sweet. You can probably already imagine what it tastes like. Nothing special but there's nothing bad about it.

Venue: It's located near it's other sister restaurants, The Bistro Group. It a bit loud outside if you want a quiet evening. We didn't mind it. The overlook of the place is cute, there were bottles of sake or wine probably so high that I couldn't get a nice picture of it. There's also a mini kitchen near the entrance where you can watch some dishes being cooked. The servers a little bit hard to call but it's probably due to a crowded place. The service was okay, we did wait 15 minutes as told but it was very much worth it. Looking forward to dining here again.

Food is good and of quality. Some items in the menu are a bit pricey while some are very affordable. Small portions especially for skewers, something that I wont be getting again if given a chance. Would love to be back to try their other rice bowls.

I have been to Watami at Edsa Shang a few times and have good memories of the yummy food and the good dining experience I have had there. So when my family visited the newly-opened Uptown Place Mall in BGC last Sunday, I highly recommended this place. I think it was a failed recommendation.128532 Firstly, the drinking glasses they gave us had lipstick stains still...not just on one glass but on three glasses! We had to order bottled water instead. Then the place was teeming with flies that we had to ask them to put a candle on our table to shoo the flies away. Thirdly, service was very slow. Fourthly, we ordered their Watami Salad which had uncooked shrimps. They said they were steamed but being a cook myself, I know when shrimps are uncooked (they were still pale white!). The only consolation is that they have a friendly and apologetic service team.

I guess it is a risk to eat at newly opened restos. They seem to be going on a trial run still and are really not ready to serve yet. Try to avoid these places for now and come after 3-6 months of operation. Come on WATAMI...I know you can do better than that!!!

PS: I am really not for negative reviews, but in this case I just think people need to be warned! 128521

Most of the food places in Uptown are still closed so we ended up at Watami. We were famished and opted to go Japanese because most of their dishes don't require a lot of cooking (hehe).

We over-ordered, as usual. When the dishes started trickling in, we noticed how the sushi and sashimi pieces were smaller than the photos on the menu. Anyway, they were pretty okay. The tempura was crispy, the beef rice bowl was also good though they didn't seem to use Japanese rice.

The assorted skewers was the last to arrive. It wasn't hot so I'm not sure if it came right off the grill. The chicken thigh (or skin?) was a little tough so we figured it might have been nuked in the microwave.

Service was so-so. The lady who seated us was pleasant but the lady manager who waited on us seemed lost and confused. When we asked for the bill and also asked for a glass of water, it took her a while to process it. It took a whipe for the glass to be refilled, for the leftovers to be wrapped, and for the payment to be processed. I'd be more considerate if the place was packed but we were the only customers (another table eventually filled up before we left). But seriously, service could be further improved. It could be a lot more attentive, efficient and intuitive.

It was hot too in the restaurant and there were flies. They have an insect repellent machine so I guess they're aware.

Went here for lunch today and ordered the Spicy deep fried salmon roll, the quail egg wrapped in bacon, chicken balls and Salmon flake rice. The rice bowl and salmon roll were both good. A little spicy but they were really flavorful. I also liked the quail egg however I think it's kinda expensive. (75 for a stick?!) Haha! Place is kinda small. Service was good though. Servers were very nice and attentive. 128076
