GREAT ambience. My friend and I refer to this experience as "tea with the queen." Nothing like anything else I've seen in Manila. Unfortunately, the food, while generous in serving, was mediocre.

These days, afternoon tea seems to be gaining popularity even amongst the young. Although places like the TWG Tea Salon and The Peninsula Manila offer afternoon tea menus that are quite lovely, the Afternoon Tea Set at the Writers Bar Raffles certainly does it for me. At P1105, the set is good for 2-3 people. It includes your choice of tea from a TWG menu and a wide array of hearty mini sandwiches, pastries and desserts. Along with my pick of Chocolate Earl Grey Tea, the plain and raisin scones, opera cake, and beef tenderloin sandwich with Dijonnaise dressing were the afternoon's winners.

Recently, I've been drinking tea to compensate for my milk-abstinence; since I prefer drinking warm beverages to fill my stomach 128522 And so when Mark suggested that we try tea-time here, I didn't think twice.

Their tea-time special is good for 2 (actually even 4) and comes with free-flowing tea but you have to choose which tea at the onset. We had white vanilla grapefruit. And then one small platter of savory sandwiches (10 pcs to be exact 128541) and then a three-tiered stack of baked goodies- scones, macarons, cakes etc) were served.

I finished my share of the savory sandwiches but couldn't take much of the sweet stuff. Well, I didn't like their baked goodies and sandwiches. They were ok but not hotel-grade, if there's such a thing.

I think I'd like to give Bizu's a try! 128540

The perfect afternoon tea set 128571 Their scones were to die for, so soft and they melts in your mouth. The sandwiches were also not bad. For just Php999, you can already have this set plus 2 pot of hot teas inside a super nice library themed bar. Super sulit and super worth trying 128521128521128521

Kate Spade New York Afternoon Tea last Saturday with my two favorite buddies, mom Elaine P and Adelheid L. We love afternoon Tea, our first high tea bonding was at Makati Shang and this was the second one because of the Kate Spade New York Inspired afternoon tea #KSNY.1278619749

It was located at Writers Bar at the lobby of Fairmont. Glad I asked mom to reserve table a day before we went there because the place was not that big and it's almost full. Lucky to spot also PBA player Mike Cardona and my two fashion blogger idol vern and verniece enciso. So lucky to have pictures with them and they were nice.

The afternoon tea starts at 2:30 pm up to 5pm.
Kate Spade New York is consist of lavish three course menu, first one is sandwiches , then choice of tea and we got our favorite jasmine tea because the smell is perfectly fine, then capped with heavenly pastries which includes , mini eclairs, mini religieuses, mini chocolate beau bag, homemade chocolates , macarons, mini cakes, cookies , and colorful mini doughnuts 127849127851127850127856

Price is 1,500+++ and that's 1,800 pesos net. They have also wifi and the place was relaxing while listening to the beautiful song played by the pianist .They have a great service too and staffs are nice128077

The KSNY afternoon tea is now one of my best high tea experience , really fancy128077100849749

Loved the high tea 128076but service sucked!128078 Ordered 2 sets (each one is good for two, we were four in the goup), only 1 set arrived. That was ok bec the serving was enough for four 128522 Value for money 128076 The scones were really yummy, way better than Shang's and Pen's 128077 The house made jams were great as well. Cakes and sadwiches were ok. The tea itself was fine but since the tea leaves were left in the pot, it tasted bitter after a while. The service was really bad too. They had student trainees out on the floor who knew practically nothing about the restaurant and services offered. There were only 4 tables occupied when we were there but we had to raise and waive our hands to get the servers' attention. I hope they train their staff better before they allow them to have guest contact.

You go to Raffles for the elegant and quiet experience of enjoying your food and company. It's the perfect place for a catch up or some solo time or an important business meeting. I can't stand extremely noisy places and I find Shangrila too busy!

Their high noon tea is highly recommendable. You get two choices of any tea you want or coffee. They are both refillable. You get a tray of canapés and loads of sweets! Tartlets, eclairs, macaroons and tiny cakes!

Tea for two to three people would cost around 1,500. If you are a unit owner, don't forget to mention that as you get a 10% discount :)

Doubt you'll find any poor starving writer here. It's a bright, comfortable, and relaxing space. A lonely grand piano stands somewhere near the corner and I so wished someone was playing it. Took a closer look at the shelves and, to my amazement, found some Philippine law books! Calling all law students! This is your high-end Starbucks -- where you can sit for hours pretending to study while nursing that cup of coffee.

I ordered a pot of verbena mint tea to soothe my bum tummy. It also seemed appropriate, albeit a few hours ahead of afternoon tea, there being a few groups of ladies-who-lunch at nearby tables (pretentious much?128540). They used tea bags not loose leaf, but it was still good. Not much of a tea drinker to begin with, so I don't really care as long as it's mint tea.

While the drinks list was impressive, food selection seemed a bit limited. Aah, must be because of the poor drunk writer for whom this bar is intended. Wait staff recommended the steak sandwich. We couldn't decide whether to have it medium or medium-rare, so we let the chef decide. Twenty or so minutes later, the sandwich came out accompanied by some fries, gravy and the cutest little bottles of Heinz mayo and catsup. Chef decided to cook it medium, but it seemed well-done and a bit on the dry side. Gravy made it taste better along with the caramelized onion, mushroom, and slices of yellow bell peppers.

Our server was very friendly and attentive. She even asked for my name so that she could address me properly. So tempted to tell her, "You can call me, Your Highness." 128513 My friend would've probably kicked me back to reality.

Raffles Makati's equivalent of a Lobby Lounge. Decorated like a library with some winged seats available to bury your tired tush in, it's a good place to hold quick meetings.

And just in case you get hungry, drinks and light meals are available. I highly recommend the calamansi marinated gambas (ask them to make it spicy!) or the prawn and mango spring rolls.
