The last time we ate at Yabu, service was bad and we were disappointed. But thankfully this visit was different. Service was excellent. Really good. All the servers and even the manager were very approachable and helpful. They were all so proactive and they really make sure to check and ask their customers from time to time. 128513128077🏼

It's not our first time eating here but my first time reviewing this place. Yabu has always been a family favorite. Whenever there's a celebration and we can't think of a new place to try, Yabu's first on our no fail restaurant list. You simply can't go wrong with any of their set meals. 128077🏼

For this visit, aside from our usuals, we were also able to try some new dishes --

CRISPY EBI AIOLI (380). Crispy battered shrimp in flavorful spicy aioli sauce served with crunchy furikake wanton chips.

A great appetizer but can already be considered as a meal. Pricey but sulit since the serving size is very generous, you get around 7 pcs of shrimps!! The shrimps were cooked perfectly and we all loved the sauce. We just think that it would be better if it was spicier. If you like shrimps, you should order and try this one. A nice break from the usual ebi katsu. 128521128077🏼

We ordered the PREMIUM KUROBUTA KATSU SET (Hire; 120g 630). The biggest size so we can share. Because sharing is caring! 128518

It was in Maisen that I was able to try the best kind/type/cut of Pork katsu which is the "Kurobuta" and it was pretty good. So I was kind of looking forward to how Yabu's would taste.

This was good, pork was very flavorful and tender. It is really different from your usual Pork Katsu. And the sauce! They provide a special sauce (exclusively just for this one) and it paired well with the pork, made it so much better. But even without the sauce, the pork was so good already. 128077🏼

Though good and flavorful, I think I would still get the "regular" katsu more than this one. For a cheaper price, I still get to enjoy a yummy Katsu Set. At least I was able to try Kurobuta once. #Kuripot 128517

And then we also ordered the GYUDON SET (495).
Grilled US beef belly in honey soy sauce, sautéed onions, topped with a poached egg on a bed of Japanese rice.

I can't remember anymore if we super liked or just liked this one (sorry for reviewing too late! 128557) but based from my memory, the beef was tender, not too salty, and the egg was runny but was kind of bitin. This set was good but not memorable.

As usual, for lola, we ordered the PRAWN KATSU SET (495). A no fail Yabu set meal. She always finishes this one. No sharing! 128518128517 Because sharing your favorite meal is not a wise thing to do! 128541

And for our Katsu add-on, we tried the LAYU SAUCE (50) which was recommended by our server. Crispy garlic bits in chili oil to spice up our favorite Yabu dish.

Served on a tiny small plate, you can mix this with your rice or with your katsu or gyudon! This is like the usual garlic chili sauce in Chinese restaurants but better. It indeed added spice, a dIfferent "taste" to our dishes but was not that "remarkable/notable". Would have been better if it was spicier, the garlic crispier/crunchier, and bigger serving size, we were wishing for more because it was really KONTI! 128546 haha! 128518

And oh, I love their unli cabbage!! I always ask for at least 3 refills! 128525 Just so I can use all 3 dressings haha! And then of course, the fresh and sweet pineapple and watermelon slices for dessert. 127821127817

Overall, it was a lovely dinner w my family. Yabu never fails in making our tummies full and happy. Can't wait to be back for more Katsu goodness! 128513127857

Yabu's katsu is always great. The meat is evenly cooked all the way, and is not at all oily. I really liked that even the cheapest cut of pork on the menu melts in your mouth. The praws are great too! Fresh, perfectly seasoned, and succulent.

I wouldve given this place a perfect five, but i think this branch could be cleaned better. Our table was a little but sticky, and there was rice on the floor. Other than that, food and service are top notch.

Reunited and it tastes so good!!! I will never get tired of the juicy Hire Katsu with the crunchy breading. I kept on sneaking bites from Hubby's tray. He loved his order. P.s. Nakaka-oc though that purple strand of cabbage!

I was being adventurous and tried the Ebi Katsu Burger which was real messy. The first few bites were good but I found it mushy though and nakakasawa. The dressings helped mask the umay factor. We loved the Fries as expected.

Service was great and since we weren't dining during peak hours we were able to snag a table instantly.

We'll keep on coming back to Yabu to fulfill our Katsu cravings. I'm getting my own Hire Katsu next time. Happy that taste and quality have remained the same through the years.

This place at Rockwell Power Plant is always packed on Sundays but just had to queue this time as my daughter and I were craving for Japanese food. We tried their Tonkatsu set (pork tenderloin) served with brown rice, miso soup, unli shredded cabbage with sesame dressing, bowl of fruits and pickles. The pork was really tender and panko breading was crunchy and tasty. Loved the plate of roasted sesame seeds that came with a pestle so you can personally pound them to mix with your katsu sweet sauce. I would have given this place a 5 but there is another Japanese resto that I have already tried that would deserve the 5 in taste, price, serving size, service and ambiance. It starts with an 'M.' 128518. But in all fairness, my Yabu experience was really good and I really enjoyed dining there.128076🏼Would definitely go back.

Katsu craze has died down.  I never bothered trying one of the popular joints because of principle.  For me,  it's  just breaded meat (no offence meant) and I'd rather spend my working class dough on raw fish.

I've heard rave reviews for Yabu and this is my first time to try 'em.  It took a while for me to decide what to get,  the menu is not that extensive but i had a hard time picking. We settled on the menchi something set.  This is similar to the other katsu joints.  The server explained the ritual of grinding the sesame seeds and adding the sauce.

"I dunno why I'm taking this seriously." He said as he was grinding the sesame seeds.

"I know,  she might check our work later. " And i did a helluva job with the sesame seeds.  They were pulverized in minutes.

A couple of minutes after,  our food arrived.   The server was correct in saying that the sauce compliments the katsu,  elevates the flavor.   Now i understand why everyone is raving about Yabu.  The meat they use is top of the line,  the cooking technique is impeccable.  I still cant identify the subtle differences between the type of meat though,  but all I know is that the meat is succulent,  moist and flavorful.

The wasabi dressing is the star of the table - best paired with everything.  And if you dig spicy flavors,  drizzle some chili oil and chili powder on the Japanese rice,  mix well...take a spoonful and a bite of the katsu....hmmmm it is so good.

Overall,  i liked my first Yabu experience.  I am coming back for their ebi burger and mozzarella sticks.

Definitely oishi katsu versus kimikatsu or Terasawa but price is more expensive. Juicy rosu and tender meat with enough fat to increase the mouthfeel.

I was walking by Yabu and one of their posters caught my eye. It was a huge photo of a katsu burger that looked delicious.

While staring at this magnificent piece of art, out of nowhere, an invisible force field appeared that prevented me from walking any further so I had no choice but to approach the hostess and ask to be seated.

I ordered their Hire Katsu Burger (P321). Yabu describes it as a “thick, crunchy and juicy pork cutlet in a toasted brioche bun.”

The burger comes with a side of chicken salad or rice. It’d be nice to have their Mozarella Katsu sticks as an option as well. If you love cheese, I highly recommend their cheese sticks. I think it’s one of the best in the metro, which is surprising, since Yabu isn't an Italian restaurant.

Back to the burger, it was as good as it looked in the poster. The katsu “patty” was thick and juicy. The bun was buttered and toasted. The entire sandwich was well made.

The katsu burger is a great alternative if you’re a frequent patron of Yabu and want to mix things up a bit. For first-timers though, I’d still recommend that you go with one of their original katsu dishes.

I think the katsu burger idea is brilliant and hope that they’ll also experiment with a chicken katsu or salmon katsu burger next. Or offer all three as sliders

Who would have taught that the katsu craze will seem to last for forever?

From the usual katsu types come this high-end katsu restaurant in the name of Yabu.

The taste and vibe of a usual Japanese restaurant can be felt upon seeing their interiors. The comic infographics that can be found in some of their walls along with the first few pages of their menu was an education on how it all started, how to savor it, and how to make the most out of this dining experience.

I ordered the Kurobota Rosu Pork Katsu. After placing my order, they instantly served the katsu sauce. A little cooperation from each guest is needed in crushing the seeds so well and mixing their Tonkatsu sauce for the order placed.

What I love even more about this resto is their generosity in serving almost all sides in unlimited portions.

For appetizer, their Miso Soup is best taken when it's served hot. The Japanese Pickles were something served to lighten up the taste and actually wake you up with either its sourness or sweetness. And how can I forget my favorite, their cabbage! The thinly sliced, served cold cabbage was always the item that I kept on asking for again and again. Its crunchiness and freshness were always to die for! I love it even more when I put so much Goma sauce in it. The shoyu vinaigrette sauce was also yummy with it.

I always enjoy eating the White Japanese Rice, its softness and whiteness will make you ask for it repetitively, but I also tried their Japanese Brown Rice which was so heavy and really filling as I paired it with the juiciness and tenderness of the Rosu pork cutlet.

I appreciate how the breading on the pork was just right to not make it too covered with it and how there's not much oil despite it being deep fried. With every bite that I took, there's this sense of extra fulfillment because it tasted as authentic as it could be!

And to end the filling dining experience, the fruits, usually watermelon and pineapples on the sides, made my tastebuds even happier.

Yabu will always be a must try resto especially for those who go crazy over katsus. Value for money is really excellent because the food that you'll be eating from lunch shall make you feel full up until dinner, I swear! 128077🏼

When I met with my college friend, she recommended this restaurant. I thought I would not like it since I'm not fond of breaded fried food. However, this resto made me change my mind. Aside from the nice dip and unlimited rice 127834127834127834, their katsu is a must try 128525128525128530127830127831. I also love the vegetable with japanese dip 128523128523128523. The side dish fruits are also fresh127821127821127821.

Tried the Menchi and Seafood Katsu Set (PHP500+). It was okay but I wished I ordered the Menchi Katsu Set instead since I'm a cheese lover. The service, as usual, was fast and the servers were very accommodating.

We usually eat at Yabu Glorietta 5. But the time these pictures were taken, we were at Powerplant.

I remember the first times we ate at yabu. My husband could hardly get yabu out of his mind. So we ate here several times more before we out grew it. Hehe.

Their kurobuta (lower left of the picture) is their most expensive in the menu. Standing up to its price, its softness and taste is so worth it! Never tasted a katsu this soft and perfect!

At the lower right is the order of tiger prawns. I cant really boast for this! My parents didn't like it when they ordered this and my sister didnt like it too when we ordered this in rockwell. I think it's best to stick with the pork katsu, though the dory is good.

The upper picture is the special set. It has seaweed and some pork shavings (i forgot what it's called) and has a sweet sauce, and an egg. Ü i like this so much i always order it! It's just so heavy i could hardly eat a lot of the cabbage.

Oh for those who haven't tried Yabu, in meal orders, everything is refillable. The miso soup, the cabbage, the fruits, the pickles(eat it with the cabbage and it's delicious), rice... And the roasted seasame dressing is endless! It's what's making people eat and eat a lot of the cabbage! The roasted sesame dressing makes it so addictive!

I used to always order the Menchi. Its a mixture of ground beef and ground pork with cheese in the middle. It's also so soft and delicious! Worth trying!

Their miso soup is so authentic, even my 3 yr old daughter is enjoying it. Even my 1 yr old son actually loves it.

Will we come back? We always do.... Because when we ask my daughter where she wants to eat, she only seems to know Yabu. So we rarely asks her. Ü (but she would ofter beg us to eat here especially when we are with my father and mother in law).

Definitely satisfied my katsu curry fix! The katsu here is so perfect! Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. And the cheesy curry is 128163

My only problem with my experience here was my service but it wasn't bad enough for me to knock off a star. Assuming due to my age, what I'm wearing, and since I'm dining alone I'm probably their last priority. I can call that profiling at its finest haha

Had lunch with the wifey the other day and she was craving for deep fried Japanese stuff. It's a good thing yabu was around the corner or else she would be grumpy all day.
Place was packed and had to wait 10 mins for a table. Very nice and accommodating staff.
We ordered seaweed salad, deep fried mozzarella sticks, curry katsu and the chicken stuffed with cheese. Everything was great! Out of all the katsudon places in the city. Yabu is my favorite!
