After our Boracay trip last May, I craved for some molten or lava cake with a scoop of ice cream. Hubby, a fan of YABU requested to have lunch here and since I was still full, I simply checked their dessert menu and bravo! I spotted their Lava Cake.

Warm and moist chocolate cake served with a scoop of ice cream. Sinfully addicting and I can say that it was almost like the one that I’ve tasted in Boracay, less the oozing chocolate. Not bad since it's 160 pesos only.

I found my little piece of Boracay in the form of this Lava Cake.

I've heard so much about Yabu The House of Katsu, on social media and through word-of-mouth, that I repeated the information in my sleep. Just what is it about Yabu that got many people go gaga for it. Just recently I went to their SM Mall of Asia branch to answer this nagging question and now my friends, I know what the katsu craze is all about.

So I dined... alone, and I didn't know what to order. I looked over the menu, went for my gut feel and ordered Menchi, which according to the menu is "a delicious mix of minced premium beef and pork covered in crunchy panko filled with oozing creamy cheese." Hmm... sounded good.

Upon ordering the female staff who attended to me placed bottles of condiments on my table. And this weird looking salt container that reminded me of the pea pod on Plants vs. Zombies.

Then the girl proceeded into giving me a little 101 on katsu sauce making. She gave me a bowl ceramic with a stick and demonstrated how to grind the sesame seeds. She did it like a cheating boyfriend's face is on the bottom of the bowl, but with a smile like that of a blushing bride, isn't that amazing?

So I ground the sesame seeds and thought, "hell yeah, I'm making myself a goddamn sauce!". As I did so I flexed my thin arm a bit for effect and acted like a real pro hehehe... Then I looked at the other customers and in my mind I was telling them, "you doing it wrong peeps!". Well, that's how fun it was for me and I was alone so forgive the crazies.

Anyway, when the sesame seeds have been pulverized to perfection, I poured two spoonful of tonkatsu sauce into it. And mixed it using chopsticks. That ladies and gents is the art of making tonkatsu sauce (cue applause).

For drinks I had pineapple juice.

Finally, the food! The menchi set includes, rice, miso soup, fruits and veggies, and and of course the star, the Menchi Katsu with a generous serving of cabbage.

I was so famished I suddenly knew how to use chopsticks! I'm not sure if it was due to excitement or hunger (#pasmado), but I noticed that my hand was shaking as I picked that first slice of menchi. That first bite was everything; it's a "no class today announcement, a free seat in the MRT, a smile back from a cute guy, the aroma of a newly ground coffee, the golden pot at the end of the freaking rainbow!. It is pretty much everything that I love in this world!

I knew right then and there why people couldn't stop themselves from raving about it and nope this is not one of those it-was-just-a-hype thing. The katsu is so soft and the cheese did wonders to augment the flavor.

And now that I've experienced it myself it's time that I spread the good news. You must try Yabu soon. You must try Yabu soon. You must try Yabu soon. You must try Yabu soon... (repeat until fade).

The best Katsu restaurant in Town. Everytime I eat at Yabu, I always end up saying "yahoooo" after. The taste of their katsudon is perfect, consistent and well done. I can't say any negative thing about Yabu because I love it too much.

Aside from the good food that they serve at Yabu, this branch also gives quality service to their customers. I and two of my friends went there at around 6 o'clock in the evening and the store was nearly full already. We asked if we can be seated on a couch, the server told us that couches were all occupied and suggested another table. We said that we're willing to wait just to be seated on the couch and that we have to go first to the nearest ATM. When we returned, the same server approached and escorted us to the place where we want to be seated. The table was already set. There were glasses of water and menu good for three persons already. Also despite the number of customers inside, the manager and servers were constantly checking us if we need anything.

Yabu virgin no longer' took me a while to sample the culinary delights of this frying place' verdict not bad' not bad indeed' but how could one go wrong by frying a pork loin and serving it with shredded cabbage' steamed rice' miso etc! Definite a bargain place at menu prices below 400 for the 150gr rose set! The fact that they offer brown rice brilliant! This want be my last visit' a curry katsu maybe next! Good job' plus service alone would deserve five star' very good' very attentive' even with a fully occupied place!

150g Rosu! "Medyo nahilo ako sa" Fat! I hope the Unlimited Cabbage, Miso Soup, Pickled Veggies and Fruit cancelled it out though. 9996128513 More rice please!

I'm back in Yabu!!!! I'm not a fan of Katsudon but Yabu is an exception. It's sooo good, I had to ask for a second serving of rice. (Hooray for unli rice) I ordered the Yabu Special Rosu Katsudon and their house tea. As usual, went home with a happy tummy.

Finally, we got to taste what everyone is raving about. Yep, without any doubt, the BEST katsu ever.

On a more different note, I'd like to commend the staff for being and providing the BEST service out of all the restaurants we've been to this year. Everyone from the receptionist, our table server (her name's Abi and she was really accommodating) and the ones refilling the veggies and rice were excellent. Since it's our first time to eat there, I love that they took time to teach us how to grind the sesame seeds and explained the different sauces.

The food gets so much praise and we believe the people who bring them should get that too ;) Thank you, Yabu Moa staff ;)

Hiiiii looloo!! I'm baaaack. 128582

This school year is very demanding for us. Taking 8-10 exams compressed in 2-5 days that can cover as much as 30-90 topics every two weeks(I'm neither exaggerating nor complaining) not to mention those never ending paperworks and hospital duties that would eat up our study time. I'm not complaining because we are closer to our dream. Finally, we have this 6-day sembreak for me to do all my backlogs.128522

Anyway.

I make it to a point to go out on weekends since it's my only chance.

Yabu has excellent service as usual. I got this Oroshi katsu this time. It's katsu topped with riadish and chives. It is served with a grapefruit then you squeeze it on your katsu before eating it. I think I like my katsu simple. It's better when you dip it in the sauce and no toppings go all around the bowl. I have always been a fan or their cabbage salad with sesame dressing. I always abuse that.128586 More reviews next time. Haha

This restaurant is so popular it's always full. Owned and operated by the Concepcion Group, it's homegrown, ergo no Royalty/Franchise fees to be paid abroad compared to other brands (clap clap!).
I like their store set up but I think it appeals more to the young ones because of the manga posters. I'm kinda old already but I like anime too (can't wait to watch the 3rd installment of the Rurouni Kenshin Himura series on Sep 24).
Frankly they all taste the same so service will play a major factor. It pays that Yabu was first to set up shop though.

Best customer service so far. Never have I been asked to replace my meal with a new one (took some time to finish their delicious appetizer, main course got cold). Kudos to great food and even greater service 128077

To answer the default question, Others would love this place because of their excellent customer service - my gawd, unparalleled so far! It's my first time to eat at Yabu and I got that kind of reception. We were only too excited to dig in our Jap fare. It was oh so goooood! For the kuripot in me, I would have wrinkled my nose at the price - but it was my friends' treat anyway. And the treat was unnecessary as we would later find out.
When we asked for our bill at the end of our meal, we were so surprised and definitely delighted. The manager took it upon himself to make one out of the three meals we ordered a free one because he said our food arrived too late. Imagine, I remember waiting for just a bit before the food arrived, and we did not even notice that it took too long. Maybe because we were not too hungry so we were not 'hangry' Lol. Or it's probably because I was entertaining my friends with the abridged but equally sordid summary of Lav Diaz's acclaimed movie Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan. Whatever we did, the free meal was a welcome treat and made us really happy with Yabu. Not only that but they gave us a coupon ensuring a free something (I forgot what, lol) during our birthdays. They just asked for our emails so they can send us the coupon. Ain't it awesome? I did not know free meals in yummy but pricey (it's worth it though, swear) places could actually happen to me hahaha XD This is a really cool Sunday. :D

So we went back to Yabu 2 days after the other hahaha so yeah, they're that delicious. I tried their katsu, forgot the name, it comes with radish and pomegranate to squeeze in and also a sauce to add more citrus to the taste. It was amazing! And to let you guys know, they don't include cabbage, fruit, rice and miso soup for take out or pabalot. But since they forgot to serve our potato croquette, they offered us a take out of cabbage and rice, we only asked for cabbage 128522 they even included their goma sauce so we brought the whole meal at home! The waiter sincerely apologized before he offered us so we understood and didn't made a deal out of it. I just don't like their single table to be shared by two. It got too crowded, good thing they forgot our potato croquette, there was no room for it anyway hahaha 128055
